The total ounces of U.S. American Eagle gold bullion coins sold fell more than 30% year over year and more than 40% quarter over quarter.
Sales in the quarter were around 15% below with the 12 quarter average. 1 troy ounce coins represented 74% of the coins sold.

The United States Mint (USM) sold 191,000 ounces of its hallmark Gold Eagle coin in the third quarter of 2016. The 170,000 ounces was a 51.889% decrease from the third quarter of 2015 and a 25.098% decrease from the second quarter of of 2016.
The mint sold 159,000 1 ounce coins, 10,000 .50 ounce coins, 30,000 .25 ounce coins and 195,000 .10 ounce coins. The 191,000 ounces was 2,00 ounces over the average over the past 20 quarters.
